JP has been in privately rented accommodation for the last 15 years and with his partner Chris for the last 5 years. Without Help to Buy they would have been stuck renting for the foreseeable future, facing higher and higher rent bills. JP and Chris were struggling to find a property that was affordable and in easy reach of their work, “It would have taken us another 10 years to save for a deposit and by then the amount needed would have increased so we were chasing an impossible goal”.
They had been looking into their options for around two years and had even put their names down for a few shared ownership properties but had had no luck. JP had only just started his new job and had to wait until his probation period was over, but as soon as this happened they were able to look into the Help to Buy scheme.
They had heard about the scheme on the news and had been following a few developments. After finding a development they liked, they spoke to a financial advisor and viewed the show flat; they went through the criteria with the advisor and waited for the nerve-wracking call to say they could reserve the property. “It wasn’t until we got the official confirmation from Help to Buy London that we really believed it and then we were over the moon!”
As first time buyers JP and Chris had heard horror stories about buying a home and how stressful it can be but they felt it was really smooth through all parties and was actually stress free, they all knew their area of expertise and worked together, “it went like clockwork”.
They moved in at the end of June and it all went smoothly. It couldn’t be said the same for furniture delivery which meant, a sofa bed and boxes for a couple of weeks but the flat itself is great- “we absolutely love it and are so happy with the location”.
“It feels good to know that we’ve made an investment in our future and the guarantees associated with a new build have given us a great deal of peace of mind as new homeowners”.
