Laura had been privately renting in London for 10 years, flat sharing with friends, so had no real space of her own. Help to Buy is what started Laura’s search for a property, she was not looking prior as she knew she would absolutely not be able to afford it without the scheme, her parents had also said that they would assist her.
Laura heard about the Help to Buy scheme through different forms of media, as it is widely advertised and all over the news and she decided to look further into it. The first step she took was to speak to a mortgage broker through a comparison site. She didn’t have much luck as the broker was able to advise her on affordability but didn’t know much when it came to the scheme itself. So when she found the site that she liked- The Ridge in Bromley, they had a recommended independent financial advisor (IFA) and she decided to go with them. “it was amazing from there, the IFA was fantastic and knew exactly what they were talking about and were able to deal with all parties so I didn’t have to”.
When Laura found out that it was affordable and that she was eligible for the scheme it was such a huge relief and she was so excited!
She was able to reserve the property under the scheme and start the process with Help to Buy London. Laura had been a little confused to start with regarding the scheme however when she spoke to Help to Buy London it was all clear, “Help to Buy London were extremely helpful, it was the smoothest part of the whole process and I felt really well supported, everything went to plan”.
Laura moved into her property in February 2015 and although there was a slight delay in completion which was a little worrying as her mortgage offer was not valid for much longer, the Development Manager was brilliant and went all out to ensure that the completion went through quickly.
“I was really impressed with the scheme, I thought it would be tricky but in fact it was the smoothest part of the process and I wouldn’t have been able to purchase without Help to Buy, it really has changed my whole living status”.
